Phil Beaman #6212845. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.845141). In 1849 Robert Schumann completed a set of Romantic character pieces for piano which he named Forest Scenes. One of that set was called Roadside Inn, which I have arranged for Instrumental Trio. In keeping with the characteristics of the Romantic period my arrangement is full of contrasts and constant shifts between dynamics, articulations, and themes. There are interpretive marks in every measure as each part independently adds to the stunning polyphonic weaving. Not too difficult to play but sounds quite advanced when all details are observed. A great piece to show your musicianship as a group. To be played warmly and with passion to welcome people to your Roadside Inn.

Parts 2 and 3 have mostly one note per bar. It is in traditional Rounded Binary Form, with the A Theme in 4/4 and the B Theme in 3/4. Each Theme is repeated.

In 1853 Charles Czerny composed a set of 20 easy piano pieces which he called Amusement des Jeunes Amateurs (Amusement for Young Amateurs); they were subtitled Petites et Brillantes Recreations (Small and Brilliant Recreations).   Let's just say they are easy fun little pieces! All of the pieces were loosely based on a folk song or a popular theme from a classical composer. One of them was based on a popular folk Russian polka, so he called it Polka Russe.I have taken Polka Russe and freely arranged it for Instrumental Trio, using some of Czerny's themes, re-arranging them into parts, and also re-ordering them into my own Rondo. Form is Intro-ABACADA-Coda. I have broken up his melodies and spread them across all three parts; each part is of equal importance and each part independently adds to the stunning melodic weaving. Parts are mostly scales and arpeggios. It requires careful counting and close attention to rhythmic interplay, but sounds quite advanced and dramatic when all details are observed.    This piece is really quite Easy, I have just marked it Early Intermediate because of the Allegretto vivace tempo, the note range (two octaves), and the necessary counting. A fun piece to show your technique and musicianship as a group in any concert.  1:45 minutes, 8 pages score, 3 pages @ part(Temporary recording of piano reduction of parts)

Far Reaching Vista (From Here to Eternity) is a Tone Poem for Instrumental Trio reminiscent of Les Six (the Parisian composers Poulenc, Auric, Durey, Milhaud, Honnegar, Tailleferre). I have used 20th century harmonies, alternating Time Signatures of 4/4 and 6/4, and many, many markings which require interpretation and musicianship. It is a rhapsodic concert/recital piece that shows great ensemble playing.  6 page score, 2 page parts6:00 minutes

Lots of articulation and short phrasing add energy. Dynamic and tempo changes add expression. A brief, contrasting interlude and a chromatic coda add interest. A short Instrumental Trio which is a chord progression piece like those written by Chopin and Schumann, but here brought into the 21st century with hints of New Age and Jazz. It is homophonic (the parts all move together.) Throughout it is easy crotchets (quarter notes). There are several dynamic markings to observe. There are some accidentals, mostly in the lowest 3rd part which often moves chromatically. This makes the the chord progression sometimes unpredictable and non-traditional so students must listen to tune well.
