Mountains Like These (2007) capriccio for solo vibraphone was commissioned by and written for
percussionist Mike Perdue. The work opens with the gentle unfolding of a series of pitches,
outlining a harmonic field that will be transformed and explored throughout the remainder of the
work. Written while in Aspen, Colorado (amidst mountains of all shapes, colors, and sizes), the
music explores the sense of adventure one can experience when traversing a new landscape.

Trapped; written for solo vibraphone is a piece that explores tension and release through musical phrasing. Instruments that require you to strike or pluck/strum is always a challenge in regards to making it sing like a voice, for an example. However, Trapped tries to capture the moments of the ebb and flow that we all see and feel through life.

Wheel is the last track off of John Mayer's album, Heavier Things, released on September 9th, 2003. Mayer wrote this song after deleting numbers out of his cell phone that he knew he would, more than likely, never call again. This experience provided the inspiration for the song. This is an arrangement that was started in 2012 while I was in my MM program at Ithaca. I completed the arrangement this year upon starting my DMA program at James Madison University.
