Bach’s Arioso, the Sinfonia from Cantata 156 is one of the most beautiful melodies in the repertoire. Ross Holcombe's great new arrangement for 10-part Brass Ensemble is imaginative and fun to play and to listen to. This 3 1/2 minute arrangement is appropriate for moderately advanced performers. The instrumentation is for: 4 Trumpets (parts in C and B-flat), Horn, 4 Trombones, and Tuba (the Philip Jones Brass instrumentation).

This four-part arrangement for brass retains the original melody in a way that could be used with solo or congregational singing, or by itself as an instrumental. The arrangement begins in the original key of C and modulates up to Eâ™­ for the second and third repetitions.

The trumpet 1 part is difficult, but it contains an alternate part for the most challenging section. The other parts are all at an intermediate level.
