Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1168471 Composed by Donna Summer and Michael Omartian. Arranged by Kathleen McGuire. Disco,Pop. Octavo. 11 pages. Kathleen McGuire #768805. Published by Kathleen McGuire (A0.1168471). ***40th ANNIVERSARY***A Donna Summer hit from post-disco / new wave era (1983), She Works Hard for the Money is more than a fun pop piece. The song tells a story of a hard-working blue-collar woman, based on inspiration Summer found after the 25th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony (23 Feb 1983) when she attended an after-party. She encountered a restroom attendant named Onetta Johnson (whose name is mentioned in the song) whom she found sound asleep - despite a blaring TV - exhausted from working long hours. Summer related the story in an interview: I looked at her and my heart just filled up with compassion for this lady, and I thought to myself: God, she works hard for the money, cooped up in this stinky little room all night. Then I thought about it, and I said, She works hard for the money... She works hard for the money...This is it! This is it! I know this is it! The arrangement opens with an a cappella introduction in full harmony. The melody moves between the altos and sopranos, with each part otherwise providing rhythmic support (echoing the instrumental accompaniment). The sopranos divide into 3 parts occasionally, allowing some high voices (A-flat) to shine. There are no solos in this arrangement -- your women all have opportunity to sing this powerful, true story that serves more broadly as an allegory for women's rights and socioeconomic hardship. The arrangement is a show-stopper, bound to get audiences clapping and even up out of their seats! Set of band parts & full conductor's score available separately: Trumpet, Tenor Sax, Synth, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drum Set.

Choral Choir,Choral (SSAA) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1380273 By Kate Bush. By Kate Bush. Arranged by Dominic Stichbury. Pop. 11 pages. Dominic Stichbury #965026. Published by Dominic Stichbury (A0.1380273). This beautiful and tender song was written by Kate Bush specifically for the film ‘She’s Having A Baby’. Bush puts herself in the shoes of a man waiting outside the delivery room as his wife gives birth. The song explores his vulnerability at this tense moment. This SSSAA arrangement plays with the form of the original song, whilst incorporating all the themes and hooks that we know from Bush's version. It offers a variety of different textures throughout, handing the melody around and moving between a free chorale-like opening to a steady pulse for the bulk of the arrangement. There is an additional descant soprano part on the top stave, which could be sung by a soloist or a small group. The key bars for this part are 12-15 & 26-28 , where we hear the iconic opening motif. The other passages of this descant can be omitted as necessary depending on the ensemble's skill level. This was arranged especially for Chaps Choir's 10 year celebration concert in 2023. The link below takes you to a mock-up of the lower voice version of this arrangement.

It is a song of simple, sincere friendship; wintry, without religion or silliness. This a capella arrangement for SSAA choir closely follows the original recording by Sara and Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson https://youtu.be/UkOKCWDJ4iA. But I put it in a key I think works better for SSAA.It includes divisi sections so you will want 8 voices at least. Here is a piano cover, in the original key.https://youtu.be/Zt-eFcvpMP0

Choral Choir (SSAA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.856166 By Miley Cyrus. By Robert Hazard. Arranged by Liz Garnett. Pop. Octavo. 5 pages. Liz Garnett #3868607. Published by Liz Garnett (A0.856166). This song was originally written and recorded in 1979 by Robert Hazard, who presented it from a male point of view, but it was made famous by Cyndi Lauper in 1983/4. Lauper tweaked the lyrics to turn it into a celebration of both female pleasure and female autonomy, and in doing so overturned the stereotypes of feminism of the era - becoming the voice of girl power for the generation before the Spice Girls.Lauper has reworked the song into two subsequent versions, but this arrangement is based firmly on the 1980s version. It was written for a series of one-day workshops, and so was designed to combine musical interest for people spending a whole day singing it with ease of learning to allow participants to focus on performance elements beyond the notes. The arrangement is notated in the traditional clefs for women's barbershop: treble and bass alta (i.e. sung an octave higher than written).Vocal Ranges:Tenor: E4 – E5Lead: A3 – C#4Bari: A3- B4Bass: E3 – E4www.HelpingYouHarmonise.com
