The piece began in 2005 as a song dedicated to my wife, which remained unfinished because I was never satisfied with my lyrics. It eventually evolved into a work for concert band and has been adapted to other mediums including Horn ensemble. The opening text and title were inspired by the Navajo blessing may you walk in beauty which refers
to the Blessing Way prayer. The title of this piece is a blessing, may the music be a blessing to you.
It is originally written for a fairly large ensemble. There is enough
doubling to adapt for a variety of instrumentations. It features solos for
3 different parts. The primary countermelody is the bass line played by
the low horns at letter A and the main melody is introduced by the 1st
horn at letter B. The piece works most easily with 5-6 percussionists
but may be done with as few as 3 by omitting the xylophone and having
the same person cover the marimba and timpani parts.
