By Frank Zappa. By Frank Zappa and George Duke. Arranged by Jeff Tincher. Rock. Score and parts. 18 pages. Jeff Tincher #6661903. Published by Jeff Tincher (A0.586251).

Some would call Frank Zappa's music weird; some, like me, would call it genius in a fun way. Frank would make fun of things you wouldn't think would work together. This song is a perfect example of that. This song is one of the easier songs to perform in his library and one that has comical lyrics. In the original key from his Apostrophe LP, this arrangement includes the live ending that his son Dweezil performed in Amsterdam on 7/25/2018. Composed by Martin Luther. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Easter,Instructional,Standards. Score and parts. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #3412023. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548728).

Out of the Depths I Cry to You by Martin Luther. First verses feature modified counterpoint and harmony proceeding at quarter = 82. The final verse is reharmonized for maximum dramatic effect at a more contemplative tempo such as quarter = 64. Very powerful selection for Lent or Easter. Duration (3 verses) 3:05, 36 ms. Score: 5 pg. piano part 2 pg.

Out of the Depths

Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir (From deep affliction I cry out to you), is, of course, a hymn composed by Martin Luther. Moreover, Luther also wrote the lyrics which are essentially a paraphrase of Psalm 130. First published in 1524, it is also one of eight songs in the original Lutheran hymnal. It appears likewise in many hymnals and in different translations. The lyrics furthermore stimulated compositions from the Renaissance to contemporary. Consequently, composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach built an entire chorale cantata on it. Other composers similarly contributed compositions, such as Felix Mendelssohn and Max Reger.

Luther Background

Martin Luther, (1483 –1546) was a German professor of theology, composer, priest, and moreover, an influential character in the Protestant Reformation. Luther had a momentous impact on church and society due to his contributions to the musical arts. He wanted to disseminate the gospel among mankind and with this intention thought that the best way to do that was through music.

Influence

It is important to realize that other musicians, and their descendants, were encouraged by Luther’s songs and wrote their own hymns. Luther, to be sure, had a thorough musical education. For example, he knew secular and sacred songs from an early age. He, in particular, played the lute well and sang in the monastery when he was a monk. That is to say, music was an essential part of his life. He in fact first began writing songs in 1523, sometimes writing the melody as well as the lyrics. Luther was certainly able to evaluate the composers of his time. He thought especially highly of Josquin des and Ludwig Senfl. He was also acquainted, with this in mind, with other composers and their works.

Legacy

The Lutheran musical ethos soon covered all of Germany and later significantly fashioned Protestant musical culture. Heinrich Schütz and Johann Sebastian Bach are the most compelling evidence of this Protestant musical culture. Additionally, as a point often overlooked, the pedal organ, first refined in northern Germany, became universally prevalent. As a matter of fact, Dieterich Buxtehude established a regular evening organ concert series in Lübeck. Another key point is that this concert series, in turn, spread North German Musical ideas worldwide. Luther was especially convinced that music is a beautiful and exclusive offering of the divine.

Composed by Christian Petzold. Arranged by Alex Nunes Rodrigues. Classical. 7 pages. Alex Rodrigues #783267. Published by Alex Rodrigues (A0.1183587).

The Minuet in G minor, BWV Anh. 115 is a piece of classical music attributed to Christian Pezold. It is a solo keyboard piece that is part of the Anhalt-Köthen manuscript. The minuet was a popular dance form in the Baroque era, and many composers, including J.S. Bach, wrote minuets for keyboard and other instruments. Minuets were often used in suite compositions and are characterized by their moderate tempo and elegant, graceful melody. The Minuet in G minor, BWV Anh. 115 is a beautiful example of the minuet form and a must-have for any classical music enthusiast or performer.

By Sharon Wilson. By Traditional. Arranged by Sharon Wilson. Easter,Folk,Praise & Worship,Sacred,Spiritual. Score and individual part. 7 pages. Sharon Wilson #6228581. Published by Sharon Wilson (A0.565799).

Here is an easy instrumental duet arrangement (for BOWED PSALTERY solo with PIANO accompaniment) of the familiar praise chorus I Have Decided to Follow Jesus. The psaltery part was designed for a beginning psaltery player and includes only half and quarter notes and no flats or sharps. The piano accompaniment is at the intermediate level.

To assist those new to reading music notation, two solo parts are included: one is the standard music notation and includes the lyrics for sing along enjoyment. The second solo part is identical to the standard music but instead of lyrics, the note names are provided below each note (example A, B, C…).

The psaltery plays the melody for the first verse and then adds harmony for the second verse. The song concludes with the psaltery playing melody for the final tag. A piano accompaniment and/or rehearsal track (MP3 format) is available for this arrangement as a separate purchase: I Have Decided to Follow Jesus (Piano Accompaniment Track for Easy Bowed Psaltery Solo).

The range of a typical soprano psaltery is two octaves beginning with the G above middle C (G4). However, since some psalteries have fewer than 25 strings, the range for this song is less than 2 octaves. Also, the notes are written an octave lower on the staff to avoid the ledger line notes that would be required to notate the upper notes. The notated range for this song is C4 (middle C) to D5 (the second D above middle C).

The purchase price includes a combined score (grand staff, 3-stave) with both parts (PSALTERY and PIANO) on each page, plus 2 options for the 1-staff solo part (one with lyrics, one with alphabetic note names).

This arrangement is one of the 10 songs in the collection Hymns and Choruses (A Collection of 10 Easy Bowed Psaltery Solos with Piano Accompaniment).

By Stephen R Dalrymple. By Franz Joseph Haydn. Arranged by edited by Stephen R Dalrymple (Dalrymple Designs). Classical. Score. 17 pages. Stephen R Dalrymple #4967137. Published by Stephen R Dalrymple (A0.818282).

Franz Joseph Haydn was born in 1732 in a small village in Austria, near the Hungarian border. ♫ His father was a wheelwright and a leader of the town. His mother had been a cook in the palace of a Count. His father had taught himself to play the harp. His family was musical and often sang together (16 brothers and sisters). His father saw that he was extremely musical and that he couldn’t get the education he needed in his little village. When he was 6 years old, he was sent to the home of a relative about 7 miles away to study to be a musician. He never lived with his parents again. ♫ In 1752 he was employed by Count Karl Joseph Morzin, leading the Count’s small orchestra and writing the first of his symphonies. ♫ In 1760 he married Maria Keller. They had a very unhappy marriage, producing no children. ♫ In 1760 Count Paul Andre Esterhazy (one of the wealthiest and most important nobles in the Austrian empire) hired him as assistant director of music. In 1766 at the age of 34, Prince Nikolaus Esterhazy appointed Haydn his Director of Music. His job was divided between the Esterhazy palace in Austria their palace across the border Hungary. ♫ Haydn dedicated Piano Sonata 40 to Princess Marie Esterhazy. He worked for the Esterhazys for the next 28 years, writing hundreds of pieces of music for the prince. After about 15 years, he signed a new contract allowing him to write music for other customers. Haydn’s reputation grew to international fame. ♫ Haydn wrote 104 Symphonies. Not unlike George Washington, nicknamed the “Father of our Countryâ€, yet had no children, Haydn is known as the “Father of the Symphony.†♫ Napoleon captured Vienna in 1809. Napoleon, himself, ordered an honor guard be placed at Haydn’s home where Haydn lay dying. ♫ The Classical Music for Tablet Series offers piano masterworks by classical composers formatted to be read on 10 inch tablets. I use an Amazon Kindle with Mobile Sheets Pro and an Air Turn blue tooth foot pedal to practice and perform piano music. Similar products available to provide other tablets the same functionality. ♫ The pieces in this series have not been arranged, but most have been edited slightly, and have been formatted to fit this screen size. For example, in the tablet versions, first and second endings are often removed and the repeated measures and endings written into the music so the performer can avoid having to go back to previous pages. These kinds of section repeats were invented to spare the composer’s time and the cost of extra paper and ink. But with a tablet the cost of paper and ink is irrelevant. ♫ Although there are a lot more page turns with a 10 inch screen compared with letter size pages, the readability of the music (due to the backlighting on the tablet) and the portability of the music (travelling with a small tablet instead of oversized books or portfolios of sheet music) easily makes up for the extra page turns. ♫ Your purchase provides one .pdf file that contains both the tablet edition and the letter size page (printable) version. There are several programs available online that will allow you to separate this .pdf file into 2 .pdf files to make it more useful.

Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by Ander. 19th Century,Classical,March,Opera,Romantic Period. 6 pages. Woods Only, Arrangements #859253. Published by Woods Only, Arrangements (A0.1266578).

This Low Brass Duet arrangement was created to preserve the characteristics of the original work, inspiring and significant to Beethoven’s well-known choral symphony. It is suitable for young music students and professional musicians, for recitals, repertoire, academic presentations, and didactic material. The transcription is faithful to the structure, with only one key change, maintaining the essence of the striking melody. Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony Op. 125 incorporates part of the poem An die Freude (“To Joyâ€), a hymn written by Friedrich Schiller, with the text sung by soloists and a choir in its last movement. It was the first example of a major composer using the human voice as prominently as instruments in a symphony, creating a far-reaching work that set the tone for the symphonic form adopted by Romantic composers. This is Ludwig van Beethoven’s last complete symphony. The choral symphony, better known as the Ninth Symphony or The Ninth, is one of the best-known works in the Western repertoire, considered an icon and predecessor of Romantic music and one of Beethoven’s great masterpieces. It was first performed on May 7, 1824 at the Kärntnertortheater in Vienna, Austria.

Composed by Andrea Gabrieli. Arranged by Mike Lyons. Baroque,Christmas,Easter,Holiday. Score and parts. 30 pages. Lyons Music Services #2930491. Published by Lyons Music Services (A0.767107).

Transcribed for brass, this is a great, if little aired example of Andrea Gabrieli's polychoral music. It is written for two choirs, one of 4 and one of 3 voices with all the polyphony and 'stereo effects' that would conjour in St Mark's Cathedral in Venice - or any large space. As always, this music transfers onto brass very well indeed. Baroque music like this is always redolent of Christmas, even if the music itself may have been written for other occasions.

A great addition to any programme.

By Michael Jackson. By Walter Scharf. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Pop. Score and parts. 12 pages. Derek Hasted #6514437. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797833).

BEN (MICHAEL JACKSON) - 3 GUITARS or LARGE ENSEMBLE
For Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.

Derek Hasted writes If there was one piece of music that showed the true extent of Michael Jackson’s musical prowess, it would surely be Ben, sung faultlessly and with great maturity at such a tender age.

My arrangement for 3 guitars is in E. The original was in F, and you can, of course, fit a capo on fret 1 to play in the original key if you want.

The choice of E gives a lovely rich sound with plenty of sustain, ideal for such a slow and tender piece.

Much of the piece can be played in first and second positions, though the tone will be all the nicer if the music is taken up the neck. The use of B# and Fx may mean the music looks alien at first, but it’s under the fingers and the use of Fx rather than G, for example, gives the music the proper shape on the page.

This arrangement is also ideal for a large ensemble. Whether you perform it on three guitars or in a large group, it will make a wonderfully haunting and moving sound that an audience will most certainly enjoy.

I also have a separate version for two guitars which is a little more complex. Find it by going to my website (below)

I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

SKU: A0.1093770

Composed by F. Leslie Smith. Folk,Holiday,Traditional. Score and parts. 57 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #697853. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1093770).

The dictionary defines revel as “a time or instance of carefree fun.†The verb tipple refers to the imbibing of spirits. A tippler is one who drinks beer, wine, whiskey or other such spirituous liquids. So a tipplers revel would be a gathering of folks who, in the words of Dolly Parton’s “Two Doors Down,†are “laughing and drinking and having a party.â€

This Tipplers Revel is a compilation of traditional drinking songs. It begins and ends with that bane of school trips, faculty sponsors, bus drivers and chaperones, “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall.†And between those two bookends come “Rye Whiskey,†“Little Brown Jug,†“Landlord, Fill the Flowing Bowl,†“Jimmy Crack Corn,†“Beer, Beer, Beer (An Ode to Charlie Mops, The Man Who Invented Beer),†“Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight,†“Wein, Weib und Gesang [Wine, Woman, and Song],†“Drink to Me Only with Thine Eyes,†“There Is a Tavern in the Town,†“Good Night, Ladies,†“How Dry I Am,†and brief quotes from about a half dozen other melodies associated with quaffing.

For the most part, this arrangement’s time signature is 4/4 and should be played at about 120 BPM. There are, however, two sections of 3/4 time, one of which is marked “tempo di valse,†and the opening and ending few measures should be played rather slowly.

The music should be well within the normal range of the group. Possible exceptions: trumpets play their A above the staff a couple of times.

There are quite a few 16th notes in the allegro sections. (And one could make the argument that at least two sections ought to have been written in 6/8 time. But they weren’t.)

Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 6 minutes, 43 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. SKU: A0.808697

Composed by George Job Elvey. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Christmas,Holiday. Score and parts. 28 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #4999815. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808697).

Henry Alford (1810–1871), Church of England cleric and man of many talents, wrote the words for Come, Ye Thankful People, Come in 1844. Fourteen years later, Alford’s hymn was set to a melody composed by George J. Elvey (1816–1893). Elvey had named the tune St. George’s, Windsor after the chapel in Windsor, England, where he was organist. The first verse of the hymn rejoices in the harvest and calls for celebrants to Come to God's own temple, come; raise the song of harvest home! As such, the hymn gained popularity in the United States as a celebration of Thanksgiving.
In keeping with the song’s celebratory and triumphal nature, this arrangement uses a fanfare as the recurring motif. The fanfare opens the piece, followed by a rejoicing, exultant first statement of the melody. In the second statement, the fanfare figure returns and forms the structure for the section. The third statement is styled as a kind of rondo; the fourth and last, grandioso. The fourth statement also changes key twice--F to B-flat, then to E-flat--includes a walking bass part and ends with, again, the fanfare. The piece should be played Allegro moderato, about 120 bpm, and there are no really tricky rhythmic figures. Most notes are well within the normal range of the five instruments-Trombone’s highest are a couple of high F notes; Trumpet 1, high A notes. So most players will have little or no trouble.
This arrangement was completed in 2019, and performance time runs about 3 minutes, 44 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge; contact him directly at lessmith61@bellsouth.net. Composed by Frank Bridge. Arranged by Ralph Sauer. 20th Century,Romantic Period. Score and part. 20 pages. Gordon Cherry #6447395. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792788).

Frank Bridge's Pensiero and Allegro Appassionato was first published in 1908 for Viola and Piano. The two movements are a perfectly balanced pair of pieces, the first being elegiac in mood and the second more outgoing and dramatic. They both show Bridge's mastery of technique for piano and instrumental writing as well as chromatic harmony.

This work is another example of Ralph Sauer's vision of creating arrangements of great music previously unavailable to Trombonists by magically editing the scores so they transform from unaccompanied Piano solos to chamber music for Trombone and Piano.

This work of about 8-minutes in length is appropriate for moderately advanced performers.
