This is a traditional Irish folk song that dates from the early twentieth century. Cork, located on the southwest coast of the island, is known as the Rebel County in honor of its long association in forefront of many uprisings to overthrow British rule. This poignant ballad recounts the tragic death of a young rebel from Cork during the famous 1916 Easter Rising.
