A Venetian nobleman, member of various judiciary boards of the Serenissima Repubblica, an intellectual of vast erudite learning, Benedett o Marcello was a prolifi c and eclectic composer. Duets hold a special place in Marcello's output, a musical genre attended by famous composers such as Händel and Steffani. Marcello wrote at least fifty such works, as the many manuscripts kept in libraries across Europe bear witness.
