At the time this Concerto was written the valve horn - the forerunner of today's French Horn - had not been developed and the player had to insert different lengths of tubing to play in different keys and use hand stopping to play any notes that were not in the harmonic series. Considering this this piece must have been extremely difficult when written - it is rather less so with a modern horn but still a challenge. This is the Great Performers Edition edited by Barry Tuckwell. It contains parts for Horn in F and also for Horn in D.
