WAM is an investigation of Mozart - it uses hundreds of slightly altered fragments of or parodies of his music - and instead of assembling them as he might if he were composing allows them to float by rather as he might if he were daydreaming. Finnissy is making a point about the way we listen to music two hundred years after its composition - usually without a sense of the adventure of putting it together from scratch.
