In this well-known hymn Herbert Howells sets a text by Robert Bridges to a hymn tune of his own composition creating a hymn which has become a firm favourite all over the world. The first three verses do not stray from Howells' original setting but John Rutter reharmonizes Verses 4 and 5 and adds a descant to the final verse which was approved by Howells himself.
