Edward C. Bairstow: Prelude Elegy And Toccata: Organ: Instrumental Work

One of the twentieth-century’s most outstanding organist-composers – ‘The English César Franck’. This is a warm and romantic work in three movements which can be programmed separately but together add up to a structure of sonata dimensions. Bairstow’s career spanned the whole strata of provincial musical life from choral society to music festival and encompassed Organ playing writing teaching conducting accompanying lecturing composing and adjudicating as well as looking after the busy musical life of York Minster where he served as Organist and Master of the Choristers from 1913 until his death in 1946.
