Holderlin Lieder is an important addition to the Voice and Clarinet repertoire by the renowned and esteemed composer Alan Ridout. The work was originally written for Georgina Dobrée probably in late 1978 or early 1979 however for some reason she was unable to give the first performance and so clarinettist Lawrence Bradley stepped into the breach with singer Julia Cleobury. The first performance took place on 3rd May 1979 (which happened to be a very busy General Election night putting Margaret Thatcher into No. 10 Downing Street) at St Edmund's School Canterbury. The composer was in attendance.
