The Spanish composer and pianist Isaac Albeniz (1860-1909) was one of the leading members of the Nationalist school that dominated Spanish music at the turn of the last century. Bajo La Palmera (Sous Le Palmier; Under The Palm Tree) was the third in a collection of 5 songs for the Piano inspired by Spain and Spanish culture published in 1898 as Cantos de España (Op. 232). The piece draws heavily on Spanish Gypsy dances especially the Tango.Bajo La Palmera has been transcribed for two Guitars by the Spanish Guitar virtuoso Miguel Llobet (1878-1938).
