Geoffrey Bush (1920-1998) was a British scholar organist and composer who having met and befriended John Ireland in his youth became an ardent champion of English music. Published to mark his 70th birthday in 1990 An Unsentimental Education was his second volume of essays autobiography and other musical recollections - following the successful formula used in Left Right and Centre. Inside he discusses many subjects close to his heart including contemporaries such as Arne Bennett Sullivan Britten and Montgomery. His distinctive narrative is unmistakable and its readability is only enhanced by the many amusing asides.
