For each period the book focuses on the respective musical forms as well as on their transformations. Great attention is devoted to the following topics which concur to a thorough musical knowledge: monody modal and tonal harmony extratonal systems semiography. Many exercises based on actual compositions by the Classical authors enrich the description of the forms.
