Written in 1994 by minimalist composer Steve Reich, Nagoya Marimbas, for two Marimbas, reflects the style of some of the composer s earlier compositions from the 1960s and 70s, in as far as there are repeating patternsplayed on both marimbas, one or more beats out of phase, creating a series of two part unison canons. However, these patterns are more melodically developed, change frequently and each is usually repeated no more than three times,which is typical of Reich s more recent works.This highly exciting piece will provide an enjoyable challenge to accomplished and virtuosic Marimba players. / Percussion / Boosey and Hawkes
