The chants are developed in a subtle manner throughout the three parts and the phrases are elegant. A good legato technique will be required in the hands, while the pedal parts are only moderately difficult. Stearns gives plenty of opportunity for varied colors in these movements, and the harmonies are derived from the chant in a most satisfying way. This Triptych would also be appropriate for concert use.
