The folk music of Israel is an important part of its national identity as Hebrew songs and public singalongs (Shira be Tsibur) were a regular part of daily life in the early days of the founding of Israel to the present day. It flows throughout the culture as a distinctive Israeli style and sound influencing other forms of music such as classical, jazz and Israeli rock. This Gregg Smith arrangement is very aggressive rhythmically and great fun to perform. The Soprano solo is distinctive over the constant rhythmic drive of the choral parts. The ending has a unique 3/4 in the Choral Soprano part over the 9/8 in the remaining choral parts leading to a big finish with the Soprano Solo topping the entire ensemble.
