9x12 inches. Jean-Marie Leclair, who is considered to have founded the French violin school, was born in Lyon on May 10th, 1697. Famed as both violinist and composer (many suites, sonatas, and concerti survive, along with his sole opera, Scylla et Glaucus), he drew successfully upon all of Europe's national styles. He was married twice, first to Marie-Rose Casthane, a dancer who died in 1728; then to the engraver Louise Roussel. When his second marriage ended in divorce, Leclair purchased a small house in a dangerous neighborhood of Paris, where he was found stabbed to death on October 22nd, 1764. There is a possibility his ex-wife may have been behind it, but far stronger suspicion rests on the composer's nephew, Guillaume-Francois Vial. The murder remains nonetheless a mystery to this day. Set of parts.
