Even when he was still a young student of composition, Weber considered the preparation of a piano score to be an important task. The high standards he demanded may be one of the reasons why he generally prepared the piano scores of his works himself. In this respect it can be said that Weber played an important part in the development of the ?modern? piano score, as his efforts were focused on producing an independent version of the work in a different medium of sound. He also tried to reproduce the impression of writing for a number of interrelated parts, of changing between instruments or creating particular sound effects.
