On 9 August 1986 at Knebworth Park in Stevenage, before an audience of 200,000 people, Freddie Mercury, who was already ill, said goodbye to his fans for the last time. As a group, Queen's love of theatrics and indifference towards political and social issues laid them open to censure by critics and the press.
