The Nunc Dimittis is widely known as the canticle paired with the Magnificat in the Anglican/Episcopal service, Evensong. The short text, which here, also includes the Lesser Doxology, paraphrases the response of Simeon upon seeing the baby Jesus. This setting is intended to stand alone as an anthem (perhaps a closing benediction) or concert piece.
