Andrew Boysen based this fantasy on the opening bars of John Philip Sousa's 1908 march, "Fairest of the Fair." Snippets of the theme are disguised in the opening low brass chorale. Melodic fragments are tossed between instrumental sections, and the work closes with a triumphant return to the opening chorale melody.
