William Leonard Reed (1910-2002), D.Mus. (Oxon) studied classics at Oxford; won university prize for composition; subsequently studied composition at Royal College, London. Reed travelled widely in Scandinavia and Baltic States, sponsored by the British Council; toured worldwide twice; worked as lecturer for Workers' Educational Association. Clearly an "English" style of composing.
