Renri, literally Human Day,
refers specifically to a
Chinese festivity celebrated
on the seventh day of
zhengyue, the first month in
the Chinese calendar.
According to Chinese belief,
Renri coincides with the day
of the creation of human
beings. This event is
celebrated not only in China,
but also in other regions of
Southeast Asia under the
influence of Chinese culture.
To honor this popular
celebration, the composer
employed the so-called Chinese
scale, which is formed by five
pitches (pentatonic scale),
and effects that recreate the
atmosphere of a Chinese
temple, where a light breath
of air gently shakes some
chimes...
