The sweet eyes of Maite, full
of promises for a better
future, guide us to the
discovery of this tender suite
in three movements. The little
girl's eyes, through her daily
enjoyment, rest, and
amazement, become the
ambassador of a life of hope,
serenity, and good will. This
piece is dedicated to every
child, to all young musicians
of today and tomorrow, to the
glow of their innocent eyes.
From the musical point of
view, the apparent formal
simplicity of this composition
hides a complex thematic and
harmonic development. This
elaboration unfolds in a
cyclical way throughout the
three movements of the suite.
The refined texture of
timbres, together with its
sophisticated harmonic
palette, account for this
work's distinctly surprising
place in the literature for
wind band of grade 3.5.
