Kittl (Czech): born in Poland; studied law as well as composition; set a libretto of Wagner's, wrote two further operas; appointed second director of Prague Conservatoire in 1843; on good terms with Mendelssohn, Spohr, Berlioz, Liszt and Wagner; one of Skroup's successors in seeking to establish opera in the Czech language.
