This Rosewood edition consists of two transcriptions for clarinet (or bass clarinet) and piano. The works are both originally variations for cello and piano by Beethoven on themes from Mozart's Die Zauberflote. Beethoven's Variations in Eb, on 'Bei Mannern welche Liebe fühlem' were composed in Vienna in 1802 for cello and piano, dedicated to Count Johann Georg von Brown-Camus (1767-1827), one of Beethoven's early Viennese patrons. Beethoven's Op. 66, Variations in F on 'Ein Madchen oder Weibchen' was composed in 1796 and published in Vienna in 1798, when Mozart's music was very popular.
