Mars is the first movement in Gustov Holst's Suite. This movement begins forcefully in 5/4 meter. An ostinato is created to give the piece a pulsing, relentless pace. Combined with the clashing chords and unresolved harmonies one can envision scenes of war, marching, smoke, death, and destruction.
