Dedicated to the excuses of music students everywhere upon the teachers inquiry about the prior week's practice, this original blues for saxophone ensemble plus rhythm is written in a medium swing style at quarter = 120. But don't let the moderate tempo fool you, because double time passages abound in the four-chorus sax soli with ever-increasing intensity. The piece concludes with a stop-time chorus for the saxes before a reprise of the melody. Mostly inspired by Bird, but with hints of Monk scattered throughout. Scored for A1,A2,T1,T2,B, and P,B,D.
