Dance of the Epiphytes won the First Prize in the 2013 Penfield Music Commission Project Wind Ensemble Composition Contest (USA) and “runner up†-prize in the Columbia Summer Winds Outdoor Composition Contest (USA) in 2010. “I was watching a documentary about epiphytes – plants that grow on other plants. The life of the strangler fig was described in the words “Dance of the Epiphytesâ€. The composition took it from there. The 7/4 theme flits from one section to another, making a considerable din, with some nocturnal stuff (The Night Gallery) in between and finally an Quasi-Irish dance.â€.
