An Odyssey is an epic voyage, and this very classy beginning band work manages to pack an epic feel into a two and a half minute work. The two memorable melodies are presented in evolving guises, beginning with a unison statement of the first theme. As the work journeys on, the second theme is first presented in a chorale setting, followed closely by a decorated version of the first theme and combined with the hymn melody. Increasing excitement in the percussion propels the work to a stirring conclusion. Take your students on this musical odyssey to the higher reaches of ensemble playing!
