Item Number: PL.0402
This familiar work from the late Renaissance is here given a new, practical edition by noted Gregorian chant specialist and conductor William Tortolano. The key (A major) is sensitively chosen for the singer's range and brightness of spirit. Torotlano has also provided a dynamic scheme that is subtle and expressive of the text. Finally, he has provided phrasing marks to set off certain parts of the text. This piece would be a wonderful introduction to late Renaissance English choral music and provides a fine anthem for anytime in the church year.
This edition of Batten's unaccompanied anthem will undoubtedly become standard. Beautifully presented, it reflects the clarity of Batten's style and the editorial suggestioins are most useful - David Halls "Salisbury Cathedral" March 2004.
