Austin Lovelace has set a beautiful text (from Jens N.L. Schjorring) to music of lyricism and grace. The quiet organ introduction sets forth the theme as the first verse is sung by women alone. The second verse is in simple four part writing while the final verse sets the melody in a canon with all voices coming together at the end. The sensitive shape of the musical phrases support the text in a most satisfying way.
