Born in Vienna in 1926, Kohn immigrated to the U.S. at age 13, and went on to study composition at Harvard with Walter Piston, Irving Fine, and Randall Thompson. Now an emeritus professor of music at Pomona College, where he has taught for over forty years, Kohn has composed over 25 works for band and orchestra, and well over 100 for piano and chamber solos and ensembles.
