Everybody knows that waltzes, marches and polkas were extremely popular in Vienna in the 19th century. But at least as popular was the iquadrillei which unfortunately has fallen into oblivion nowadays. It has its origins in the French dance music which explains the typical six part form. It is sheer entertainment and dance music in the shape of a medley. The composer used already existing tunes and could eborrowi with impunity melodies from contemporary composers.
