Slow and stately, the lower parts provide a steady, chordal accompaniment while the higher parts weave intricate melodies around each other. This builds and builds until a long run of semiquavers take us to the high point of the piece - a triumphant re-statement of the opening theme. This then fades away to a quiet and restrained ending.
