A new entry in UE's ongoing New Study Score Series, Die Sache Makropulos weighs in at over 500 pages, including more than 100 pages of prefatory information in both German and English. In his penultimate opera, Janacek tells of a powerfully attractive young woman, eerily reminiscent of women from the past, who seems to know historical details she shouldn't be able to. Janacek completed the first draft of music and text within a year, then spent another year applying the finishing touches before the premiere in 1926.
