Text: George Herbert.
SS and Piano. The poetra of George Herbert (1593-1632) has always been special for this composer. Herbert was Rector of a tiny medieval church a few miles from where Philip Lawson has lived for the past 20 years. This hymn is usually sung in English churches to a rather angular tune by J. D. Jones, who lived from 1827-70. Having never heard a modern setting of this text, the composer decided to write his own. The piece is primarily for unison voices with some divisi. Moderate ranges and useable by adults and children.
