...it is refreshing to see these works brought to light in such a scholarly manner, one that is also performer-friendly. The study of music of the seventeenth century was once hampered by the lack of available scores and editions necessary to undertake scholarly investigrations and mount productions. Happily, the appearance of these new critical editions of Cavalli operas, along with those of music by other contemporary composers over the past two decades, have assuaged the situation.
