La Cucaracha (the Cockroach) is a traditional and probably very old Mexican Folk Song. Dozens of different verses have been added to this popular song over the years, and it is often performed in Mariachi ensembles. The crooked rhythmic feel of the song depicts a poor cockroach who is struggling to walk after losing one of his back legs, and students should strive to bring out this syncopation with strong accents and plenty of space between notes. Ole!
