The original version of Baltic Song, for piano solo, was composed in October 2005 while the composer was in residence at the Visby International Centre for Composers, located in the historic town of Visby on the Swedish island of Gotland overlooking the Baltic Sea. The piece was recomposed for clarinet and piano in Melbourne in 2009, and the bass clarinet version followed in 2015. Over a rocking accompaniment, the lyrical line of the solo instrument outlines a spacious melody before dissolving into a twelve-tone 'sea' at the piece's close. Duration: ca. 3 minutes.
