Henri Dutilleux's (1916-2013) compositional style greatly reflected that of Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy and Albert Roussel. Yet his unique, individual style did not go amiss, as in his Au GrE des Ondes, composed in 1946 and still performed to this day. Au GrE des Ondes, translating as Along the Waves, contains six movements, including an homage to Bach. Au GrE des Ondes reflects Dutilleux's style in its atonality and modality, use of pedal notes and subtle hints of the jazz style. As an unusual set of piano pieces, Dutilleux's compilation adds pleasant variety to the pianists' repertoire.
