It is meant to evoke images of a moonlit Halloween night, alive with fiendish creatures engaged in a demonic dance. Inspired by the work of French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, this piece is best characterized by the expressive marking, sinister.The melody of this 6/8 piece is played in a smooth, legato style in contrast to the crisp pizzicato accompaniment. Care should be taken never to rush the pizzicato passages. Dynamics should be emphasized throughout, and sixteenth notes should be played off the string, with accuracy, in a spiccato style.
