The homophonic texture of Ritchie’s a cappella setting allows Quinn’s translation of the Aquinas hymn to be expressed clearly, without sacrificing mood for volume. The four-part writing is not taxing for the average choir, but there are still subtle dissonances that provide harmonic interest.
