There are quite a number of fine anthems that celebrate the role of music in worship and that tell us to “sing a new song,” but this Troeger text is unique in that it is a prayer of thanksgiving to God for the gift of hymns, carols, anthems, preludes that continually lift our hearts. The music is an attractive tune scored in two and four parts, with a final robust stanza for unison voices with descant. .
