The Three American Madrigals includes settings of Frost, Whitman and Teasdale. Frostâ??s poem Bond and Free is another slow lyrical setting with contrasting tonalities accentuating the two halves of the poem. Likewise, the setting of Whitmanâ??s Tears explores various diatonic modes while also employing constantly changing meters, thus yielding a feeling of fluidity. A setting of Sara Teasdaleâ??s I Love You closes the cycle.
