The title of the work describes the creative process itself - ideas vying with one another and colliding. In the work's four movements various motives appear and reappear like reminiscences or flashbacks. Everything happens now, in the present, within the frame where the content of the music has been set out. Now was commissioned by the 1995 Lapland Festival in Arjeplog, Sweden.
