Deze compositie is ge nspireerd op de gelijknamige avonturenroman van de Schotse auteur Robert Louis Stevenson. Niet bedoeld om een letterlijke weergave van het verhaal te creëren, schetst de muziek juist de sfeer die spreekt uit bepaalde scenes van het boek. Appermont koos bewust voor deze filmische stijl om tot de verbeelding van zijn luisteraars te spreken.
Diese festliche Eröffnungsfanfare ist die Einleitung der Yokohama Festival Overture, einem Werk, das Jan Van der Roost im Auftrag des Festivalkomitees des Art Festival Yokohama schrieb. Auf besonderen Wunsch der Leitung dieses Komitees komponierte er dafür eine frische, dynamische Eröffnungsfanfare - für die gesamte Blechbläsersektion des Blasorchesters und Schlagzeug (ad lib.) -, die unabhängig vom Gesamtwerk spielbar sein sollte, die hier vorliegende Yokohama Festival Fanfare.
Cette joyeuse fanfare d’ouverture correspond l’introduction de Yokohama Festival Overture, une oeuvre composée par Jan Van der Roost et commandée par le comité directeur du Festival artistique de Yokohama (Japon). Le commanditaire avait fait mention d’une requête particulière : la fanfare d’ouverture (interprétée par les cuivres et les percussions ad libitum) devait pouvoir se jouer séparément et s’intituler alors Yokohama Festival Fanfare.
This celebratory opening fanfare is the introduction to the Yokohama Festival Overture, a work that Jan Van der Roost wrote on commission from the Festival Committee of the Yokohama Art Festival. At the request of the committee he composed a fresh, dynamic opening fanfare—for the entire brass section of the band and percussion (ad lib.)—playable independent of the overall work - the Yokohama Festival Fanfare.
